Tiny TV Reviews 2018
All the TV shows I watched in 2018, in order of appearance. * designates a meaningful re-watch.
Shokugeki No Soma (Food Wars) - I love this weird show and the third season is an excellent four-course meal.
Ronya: the Robber's Daughter - I did not know this was a kids show until the 3rd episode. Then I felt relieved that I don't have to enjoy it.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - Incredible! Top-notch production value (dat ep.4 cold open doh), picture-perfect casting for rich, nuanced characters. In particular I am blown away by the comedy. The show is grippingly funny and I still long to see the good comedians take the stage. The good comedians kick the laughs into high-gear every time and the bad ones are believably trying without really nailing it. The stand-up sits so perfectly just above the rest of the show that when the characters in the show say Midge or Lenny are the best comics they've ever heard, it's a brilliantly credible statement. It's going to be a long off-season.
Silicon Valley - Impressively realistic story, tech-wise, and just gets funnier and funnier. Season 1 penultimate contains one of the greatest and most organic comedy-of-errors I've ever seen. Season 5 feels like it's building a ramp next to a shark tank.
The Good Place - Very funny show. A clever concept executed by great casting and writing. Brutal cliffhangers though.
