Tiny Board Game Reviews 2019
All the board games I played in 2019, in order of appearance. * designates a meaningful re-read.
Treasure Island - I love this game to pieces. Gold pieces. The gameplay is awesome, the components and art are amazing and enticing. Encourages super fun light role-playing too. It's going to be tough to topple this off the top of my 2019 list.
Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 - So many exciting elements added. Opening the box was a joy. Two losses out of two so far. More details to come.
Hive - What a lovely little chess puzzle. Easy to pick up and hard to escape. Really good.
Welcome To - Harder to teach than expected, but is a nice, quiet, puzzly game. Lots of "dig yourself into a hole"-ness. Really liked it.
Trapwords - A fun team word game. May be an instant classic if they pared it down to just the word game.
Anomia - I'm trying to think of a better named game, but I can't. I good party game that I can imagine being good at.
Viticulture - An amazing marriage of theme and mechanics. My first real Euro game in a long time and it was full of great, dawning moments of understanding. I got the max score on my first game and I'd happily play again!
Azul - This game was a headache to learn but will be easy to teach in the future. I really liked this game as a gentle game with occassional potential cut throat. It's so soothing and tactile. I got a whopping score of 94 on my first go. Not sure if I'll be able to top that.
The Champion of the Wild - The regular rules are way less fun than any homebrew I can think of, but it was still really silly and really fun.
One Night Ultimate Werewolf - Finally got to play this! The short time limit adds a great momentum to the game. It's satisfying to figure out what happened at night, even if you have to vote for yourself because you're obviously a werewolf now.
Rock, Paper, Wizard - A chaotic and short game of wizardry. Very fun, especially when Wild Surges happen. I want to find a way to make more of those happen because that's when things really go wild.
